Forgot to mention, I was not earning a significant income at the time. I only managed to cover the car with my Uber work, and the rest of the expenses came out of my retirement savings, which are now completely gone due to this inequity.

Maybe, the underlying presumption is more general than the one about the motives of a spouse who becomes supported by the other spouse – the simple one, that female spouses are the ones who nurture and care for the kids, not so much the male spouse. It’s a parallel to the one that the male spouse is the provider. It’s the provider/dependant model…
